Parhelion Results and Website

Website
There is currently a problem with this
website which is preventing newly uploaded pages from appearing
immediately. The server continues to display the older page and not
the new one. The exception seems to be this News page. The results
of yesterday's Parhelion race have been posted but may not appear,
i.e. you will only see results for Races 1 & 2. The updated
results page does load after a few refreshes, though at present the
Reports page is refusing to do so. I am in discussion with the
hosting company to try and resolve these issues.

Notice to competitors in the Parhelion
Spring Series:
As you will be aware, there were some problems with today's races. The root cause was the failure of the starter motor on the committee boat Condor. Condor was refitted in December and January with a new Diesel engine, including a new starter motor. Obviously no problems were experienced during last week's racing, nor in any of the other races Condor has been involved in so far this year.
On finding this problem, the race team immediately set about trying to repair the starter motor with the aim of getting Condor underway to run the day's races. However as we eventually found, the start motor had simply failed internally and there was no other solution than to replace the motor. This ruled Condor out of the racing for the day.
Because we were aware that the majority of the fleet was already heading out to the race area, the decision was then taken to attempt to run racing from two support RIBs. Although we were able to get the first race underway, we experienced significant problems trying to anchor the replacement committee boat Solent Storm. Multiple attempts were made to lay first one anchor and then two at a time, but at the start we were still having to use the engine to keep station. After the start, one of the anchor lines became wrapped around the propellor and subsequently cut.
Having lost one anchor and not wishing to loose the other, the decision was then taken to end the day's racing after first race and recover the race at a later date when both Condor and a full race team will be available.
Portsmouth Sailing Club and race-with-condor would like to apologise for the disappointment today's events will have caused. We would also like thank all our competitors for their patience and forbearance whilst we attempted to salvage the situation. As we hope you will appreciate, starter motor failure was unexpected and we would not wish to cancel racing unless it was absolutely necessary. We expect to be back to normal next week and we hope you will join us.
