Cancellation of Racing, Saturday 29th March

The Met Office inshore weather forecast for the Solent area for the 24 hours from 1800 today, Friday 28th March is as follows: Wind, West backing south 5 to 7, increasing gale 8 at times. Sea state, Moderate or rough, occasionally very rough later. At best we feel this forecast is marginal for racing, especially considering the forecast of gale 8 winds at unknown times and for an unknown duration. The sea state is also an area of concern, with the very rough conditions forecast for 'later' meaning 12 hours from the issue of the forecast, in other words, from 0600 tomorrow morning.

It is therefore, with regret, we have taken the decision to cancel tomorrow's opening races for the Spring Series. We trust that our competitors will understand this decision and bear in mind that it was not taken lightly. We look forward to seeing you all next week for the long-distance race, when hopefully the weather will be more clement.

Early warning of adverse weather - Saturday 29th March

At the time of posting, the five-day weather forecast for Portsmouth is forecasting wind speeds of 30mph (F6) and gusts of 50mph (F9) for Saturday 29th March, the first weekend of the Parhelion Spring Series 2008. If conditions occur as predicted, there is likely to be an effect on Saturday's racing, ultimately racing may not take place. As usual, the decision to run Saturday's racing will be taken on the morning of the race, unless the weather forecast is sufficiently poor to warrant a decision on the previous evening.
