As some of our competitors have brought to our attention, there is an error in the Notice of Race concerning discards. The line explaining the discards in the event of 10 or 11 races being sailed is missing. As the Sailing Instructions relate to a part of the NoR which is incomplete, Amendment 1 to the Sailing Instructions has been issued and contains the full discard profile. Amendment 1 is available

The first race of the series will be the combined result of two races from the ROYAL SOUTHAMPTON YACHT CLUB CLARKSON CUP REGATTA which is taking place on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 May 2009. The RSYC Clarkson Cup Regatta comprises 4 races over 2 days in the Central Solent, starting around 1000 each day.  Entries welcome from boats with an IRC rating of between 0.820 and 1.360. The results for last weekend's races (18th April) have been updated and republished, they are available on the Latest Results page. The update was to correct the ratings of two IRC1 entries, the omission in Club Class of the ratings for both Contessa 32s and also to accommodate the revision of ratings for the two Beneteaus, which has been the subject of some feedback and discourse between the competitors

The race results for Races 4 & 5 of the Parhelion Spring Series 2009 are now available on the Latest Results page. Due to the conditions during Race 5, none of the Club Class boats finished within the time limit, therefore the race is considered abandoned in accordance with Racing Rules of Sailing Rule 35.

As some competitors will be aware, there have been several issues with the results of the races run so far in the Parhelion Autumn Series. The results have been updated tonight with a number of corrections which should resolve the issues raised, and are now available on the Results page. Back by popular request, we have reintroduced a racing marks chart of the SCRA racing marks we commonly use in the Parhelion Series. The chart is derived from the GPS positions of the racing marks as provided by the Solent Cruising and Racing Association (SCRA) and is interpreted by the OpenStreetMap.org website and Trailrunner software. The chart is available from the Downloads page.

It is with some regret we announce that this year’s Parhelion Autumn Series with not be run in association with “Race with Condor” as has been previously advertised. The provisional dates for the Parhelion Spring Series 2009 have been announced: Parhelion Spring Series 2009: Saturday 28th March: Races 1 & 2; 4th April, Races 3 & 4; 11th April, Races 5 & 6; 18th April, Races 7 & 8; 25th October, Races 9 & 10, followed by the prize-giving. Our long distance took place today, the sixth sailed race in this year's Spring Series. Results can be found here.

After last week's disappointment, today's conditions were far more favourable and the Parhelion Spring Series got underway. Races 1, 2 & 3 were sailed in bright and breezy conditions. Results can be found on the Yacht Results page.

Due to last Saturday's cancellation of Races 1 & 2 the Parhelion programme has been revised to try and recover the lost races. On the 5th and 12th April the intention is to run three races per day, conditions permitting. The long distance race, originally planned for this coming weekend, 5th April, has been moved to 19th April.

The Met Office inshore weather forecast for the Solent area for the 24 hours from 1800 today, Friday 28th March is as follows: Wind, West backing south 5 to 7, increasing gale 8 at times. Sea state, Moderate or rough, occasionally very rough later. At best we feel this forecast is marginal for racing, especially considering the forecast of gale 8 winds at unknown times and for an unknown duration.

At the time of posting, the five-day weather forecast for Portsmouth is forecasting wind speeds of 30mph (F6) and gusts of 50mph (F9) for Saturday 29th March, the first weekend of the Parhelion Spring Series 2008. If conditions occur as predicted, there is likely to be an effect on Saturday's racing, ultimately racing may not take place. As usual, the decision to run Saturday's racing will be taken
