Parhelion Spring Series 2008 Races 1, 2 & 3
05 April 2008
Our
first course was a triangular one from the start line near Gleeds,
upwind to VT Shipbuilding then along the Haslar Wall to Vail
Williams and then to the Mary Rose mark (or our inflatable laid
leeward mark for Club class) and back to the start line. Conditions
were bright and breezy but with the northerly wind coming straight
off the land, the sea was flat. A couple of boats tried their hands
with their spinnakers along the Haslar Wall, but most had more
success on the downwind leg to Mary Rose.
Over the course of the first race the wind shifted a couple of points to the north-west, so the course for the second race was more windward/leeward, with Vail Williams becoming the windward mark and the leeward marks remaining the same with two rounds. There was and added moment of interest during the start sequence for the Club class second race when the RIB detached itself from the committee boat and floated off down the Solent. Whilst we were bringing the anchor up start, Total Obsession Too was also heading after the errant RIB and Rick Hodgeson hopped on and brought it back. Hopefully Rick's knee will recover from the bash it suffered when we delivered him back to Total Obsession Too.
The last race was a single lap of the second race course and none of our boats went walkabout this time.
