QHM has issued a Local Notice covering Recreational Boating During Coronavirus - in brief - don't go boating for pleasure! https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/qhm/portsmouth/local-... And, for information, Wightlink has issued a much reduced timetable from Portsmouth but will completely cancel the Lymington crossing! https://www.wightlink.co.uk/information/coronavirus/ And there are some racing marks laid and ready for us (see picture - copyright Geoff Dixon!) -

It is, of course, all very quiet on the local sailing scene - sadly the only news is of disruption to the sailing and social programme... :( We have cancelled the Spring Spithead Series and postponed the Portsmouth Regatta; we hope that we may re-schedule the Regatta in early September. With sailing and even working on boats probably not deemed to be 'essential reasons' to leave home find attached links to

I'm sure it will come as no surprise but regrettably the Club have decided that we must Cancel our Spring Spithead Series due to the rapidly developing COVID 19 crisis. We are looking forward to seeing you all back for a fantastic Autumn Series starting on 19 September; in the meantime let's hope we have a great summer on the water!

'Following on from my message to you on Monday and in light of further developments regarding Covid-19 your Committee have decided to close the Club from Thursday 19 Mar until further notice. It is felt that this is in your best interests and that of the community at large in the current climate. It will also save money as people are not using the Club for obvious reasons.

Regrettably we have decided to postpone the first of the Spring Spithead Series races, due to be held on Saturday 21 Mar. This is in order to comply with government advice to avoid non-essential travel and social contact. We shall continue to monitor the situation and hope to provide a decision with respect to the whole series within the next few days.

Once again we have abandoned racing - Southerly winds of 22kts gusting to 30 kts :( and, perhaps not surprisingly, limited interest from competitors! Oh - how we are looking forward to those warm breezes of the summer...

A busy start to March with a strong team of Squib sailors representing the club (and the Squib class) at the Dinghy Show (Alexandra Palace), Chris Watts (World Sailing Judge) talking to members about racing rules (see picture), the D Day Story presenting on LCT 7047 https://theddaystory.com/plan-your-visit/what-to-s... and, at last, some yacht racing up the Harbour - thank you Chris Smith and Avocette! February has been dominated by storms so sailing opportunities have been limited but there's been lots going on in the Clubhouse! In addition to several Friday evening supper clubs (great food!) we have enjoyed a Wine Tasting Evening, thanks Camber Wines (see picture) a Folk Music 'Jam' session and an excellent talk from local sailmaker Dick Batt. Lots more planned for March and hopefully Spring will arrive and we'll get out sailing!
