Sailing Report - March 2025

Published 22:03 on 3 Mar 2025
Hello Again, and our 2025 sailing program has kicked off to a fabulous start off the season in a chilly wind but with warm sunshine counter balancing this.
The Tempest Class is first to get going with the Icicle Series, an appropriate name as the first task was to take the covers off which were frozen with real icicles on the tie cords! First we launched 3 Boats on Saturday for a shakedown sail in the harbour sailing to Portchester Sailing Club then to Foxbury before tying up for the night then Sunday Race 1 and 2 of our Icicle Series.
Race 1 a fickle F1-3 NEE Frank and his team met us at Z2 to start our race. One of our boats suffered jib halyard issue so hoisted jib with spinnaker halyard and to keep in the spirit we all opted a white sail only Race day.
Achtung Baby Lead from the Start to finish with a course to 91 2 laps. Lots of current and a large crane ship working on Z1 gave tactical racing.
Race 2 Looked similar wind until the very Start when the wind just died
But after some drifts in the flooding tide an unexpected SW sea breeze cut in F1-2 with a course to 98 finishing at Z2. Born Slippy took the Lead with Achtung Baby and Insemene tussling for positions.
It was a very tactical upwind beat Achtung Baby broke away from Insemene and was in hot pursuit of Born Slippy. At 98 Achtung Baby overtook Born Slippy headed to the middle of the harbour to catch the last flood and maintained its lead to the finish.
Well done to Frank and Team Valiant for a great start to 2025 Racing.
Next race is Frostbite 3+4 on March 16th
