What a fantastic Race!!

This week saw our annual long distance race. Adam (Challenger) set the course. Starting from Gilkicker Line heading east to Naomi House Jacksplace to Horse Elbow, Warner, North Sturbridge, Kemp Quay, Mother bank, Warsash finish at Gilkicker Line.

Wind was NEE moving E 14-25kts.

We had 15 yachts on the start line. Frank and his team on a borrowed committee boat (big thanks) started our race. It was a port tack straight to the first mark. At the mark Born Slippy just got through with Diablo and Jambo and White Cloud so close I couldn't tell who was who. Very close on the heels of this group Achtung Baby followed by One More Knot.

Next leg a fine reach to Horse Elbow. With Tempests able to show their just off the wind but still upwind planing ability Achtung Baby overhauled the 3 Fast yachts and Snuggled in behind Born Slippy.

We rounded Horse Elbow for a bumpy ride in turbulent water to Warner leaving it to starboard. Then a very very fast reach to North Sturbridge the Tempest very much in there own pretty much Planned all of the way reaching speeds of 14kts+ behind we could see Jambo and Diablo with kites also having fun.

Once rounded a kite reach to Mother Bank, now the bigger Yachts had their turn catching up with the Tempest like wolves to prey. Born Slippy still leading with Achtung Baby close behind Born Slippy made excellent use of kite pressure and pulled away from Achtung Baby but both boats leading the fleet around Mother Bank.

Next an upwind leg Diablo now overhauled Achtung Baby and close on the heels of Born Slippy. White Cloud now catching Achtung Baby we all rounded Warsash on the final leg.

The First 4 boats over the line where

  • Born Slippy
  • Diablo
  • Achtung Baby
  • White Cloud.

A Stunning day enjoyed by all.

Next weekend we have more Parhelion on Saturday then on Sunday we have a Talk in PSC Club house firstly On Race Management then a light Soup n Sausage Lunch followed by Racing Rules of sailing 25-28.

All members are welcome.
