Parhelion - 4th Saturday - 8 April

The penultimate Saturday of the Spring Parhelion series started with fog horns and discussions with QHM over fog routines and finished with sun cream and a pleasant easterly breeze.

The immediate concerns facing the race team on board Mary Siobhan were whether there was sufficient visibility to start a race and whether there was enough wind to get the fleet away. The race officer (Daryl Bowles) elected to start both divisions together and the fog lifted just in time to allow the ODM to remain visible from the committee boat. The first leg took the fleet into the gently building Easterly breeze to Vail Williams with all heading inshore to keep out of the tide. With the fleet rapidly spreading the race was shortened after one lap in order to allow time for a second start. The second race again saw both divisions combined on the start but two laps were completed with upwind legs into the tide to Vail Williams and downwind to RNC and RAYC. Maggie May and One More Knot dominated the Club Fleet but the IRC results were more widely shared with Red Arrow, Tinker T, Wild Blue and Electron V all taking 'top three' places.
