Spring Parhelion Sat 1 Apr - Memorial Races

Sixteen boats took part in the two races that were held on the third Saturday of this Spring's Parhelion Series. Over the past few years the two races of the third Saturday have been designated as Parhelion Memorial Races; an opportunity for us to remember previous competitors who are sadly no longer with us, particularly our old friends Roy Pearce (Rhapsody & Symphony) and Mike Tattersall (Electra).

A very pleasant SW'ly breeze and beautiful sunshine allowed the Race Officer (Rick Hodgeson) to set a pair of courses from the vicinity of Gleeds, out into the central Solent and then back up towards the forts. In a strong Easterly setting tide both courses provided a tactical challenge that Phil Duff in his Elan 333, One More Knot and Parhelion newcomers, the RAFSA in J109 Red Arrow mastered with impressively consistent performances. Using NHC ratings, One More Knot gained a first and a second and Red Arrow a second and first; meaning that on 'count back' Red Arrow takes the Memorial trophy.

The race was followed with an excellent 'bangers and mash' lunch (accompanied by Jim Page's special gravy!) at PSC!

The next two races are planned for Saturday 8 Apr with the final races and prize giving planned for Saturday 22 Apr.
