Lockdown Sailing Update!

Published 23:22 on 23 Apr 2020

Of course there is no sailing to report but the Sailing Sub Committee met recently (virtually of course!) and although nobody knows how quickly we'll be able to get back on the water we were able to discuss a few aspects of our summer and autumn programme;

1. Portsmouth Regatta. Originally planned for the weekend 16/17 May this has now been cancelled until next year, the weekend 22/23 May 2021 is being considered.

2. Cowes Week. Cowes Week Limited remain committed to running Cowes Week as planned - 8 - 15 Aug. http://www.cowesweek.co.uk/web/code/php/main_c.php...

3. Autumn Spithead (Parhelion) Series. We hope that this series will run as planned 19 Sep - 24 Oct however we expect to cancel the second race of the series (26 Sep) as this clashes with the rescheduled Round The Island Race -http://www.roundtheisland.org.uk/web/code/php/main...

4. Tempest Class National Championships. This was originally planned to be included within the Portsmouth Regatta however tentative plans are being made for PSC to host this event over the weekend 5/6 Sep.

5. VIRTUAL RACING! For those that just can't wait to get back on the water for their sailing 'fix' beware as this game is really quite addictive! Details were published within previous news articles but if you fancy taking part please look at https://www.virtualregatta.com/en/inshore-game/ and/or email rcsailing@portsmouthsc.co.uk. The simulations are excellent, so much so that just like on a real race course, if you lose concentration or make an error you will be punished! Club members have been competing in PSC races every evening and we will be holding a series of five races next week to find the club champion who will then go on to compete in the RYA Regional Championships....
